Project title
Development of Virtual Engineering Surveying and GPS Learning Workshop for Construction and Structural Curricula (Jan 2007 – Dec 2008)
supported by Quality Enhancement Fund
Abstract:
The knowledge
to be covered in Engineering Surveying (undergraduate modules) for Construction
and Structural Engineering (CSE) Curricula is extremely intense and dynamic.
Traditional didactic lectures have been considered ineffective for today's
educational needs. Virtual Workshop is an effective mean for introducing
case-based learning to Engineering Surveying programme, therefore it is
adopted in the Engineering Surveying course, especially for the tutorial
sessions. However, high-quality case-based tutorials require a lot of
valuable teaching resources. This investigation strives to identify surveying
cases relevant to the CSE curricula, and developed appropriate virtual
teaching materials for Engineering Surveying programmes. With the case
study materials, a web-based multi-media learning centre for Engineering
Surveying in CSE curricula will be derived. Extensive validation and verification
will be conducted with both teachers and students of CSE programmes in
order to determine the effectiveness of the web-based virtual workshop.
It is envisaged that this investigation will put Hong Kong into the leading
edge for the application of Virtual Workshop in engineering education.
