Project titleScience Teacher Update Program: Applications in Engineering Surveying (September
2005 – August 2007) Abstract: The project aims at enhancing the quality and effectiveness of learning and teaching in science subjects for secondary schools by providing teacher update training workshops and outdoor fieldwork. This project intends to establish a better collaboration in science education between the upper secondary school and university levels in Hong Kong. Hence, construction programmes at the universities can be promoted in the upper secondary schools. Through the training workshops and fieldwork at the Engineering Surveying Laboratory
at the City University of Hong Kong, the following objectives will
be achieved: (1) to enrich teachers’ technology applications in science/physics/mathematical
subjects (F.4–F.7); (2) to encourage teachers to diversify and specialize
in their teaching areas; (3) to update teachers’ knowledge of ‘existing
subjects proposed to be phased out’ in order to help them adapt to
the new needs of science subjects; (4) to provide an environment
for teachers from different schools to learn, work and share their
experiences together with regard to science/physics/mathematical
subjects and specific topics; and (6) to allow teachers to use the
Engineering Surveying Laboratory and other equipment as a type of ‘classroom outside school walls’ to broaden students’
exposure to science/physics/mathematical subjects.
