Project
title
Enhancement of Construction Value Management Professionalism for the New Generation (April 2004 - December 2004)
supported by Professional Services Development Assistance Scheme
(PSDAS), Commerce, Industry and Technology Bureau, Hong Kong Special
Administration Region, and the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors
Abstract:
Construction professionals need to update themselves with essential expert knowledge
and skills to cope with the ever-changing construction techniques and
external environment. Traditional decision making and management processes
generally fail to enhance the quality and value of construction projects.
However, the development of Value Management (VM) has provoked construction
stakeholders to focus on the relationship between functions and costs
when a project is designed and constructed. In view of a lack of understanding
of the concept and skills of VM in general, this project aims to update
and disseminate the VM knowledge and skills required by construction
professionals so as to enhance the competitiveness of the construction
profession in a regional context. Achieving this aim requires the following
objectives to be fulfilled: (1) devise a system to introduce VM knowledge
to construction professionals; (2) train value specialists to co-facilitate
VM workshops; and (3) exchange innovative VM techniques with international
VM experts.
