Project title

Improving the Competency of Local Project Managers in Managing Mega Infrastructure and Construction Projects in Mainland China (Jun 2007 – Dec 2008)
supported by Professional Services Development Assistance Scheme (PSDAS), Commerce, Industry and Technology Bureau, Hong Kong Special Administration Region, and the Hong Kong Institute of Project Management

Abstract:

With a shortage of reliable construction experts capable of overseeing mega joint-venture projects, properly trained project managers from Hong Kong become the most sought after project personnel in Mainland China in recent years. Nonetheless, not too many project managers in Hong Kong are well prepared for this challenge, mainly because there is a little channel for them to update their knowledge on the rather diverse construction systems and practices of our motherland. The aim of this project is to improve the competency of Hong Kong project managers who are prepared to participate in the increasingly popular mega-scale joint-venture infrastructure and construction projects in Mainland China. Through this project, it is envisaged that the knowledge of Hong Kong project managers regarding the Chinese construction system and practice as well as the latest know-how of international contract and best practice would be significantly elevated, and this should further enhance their competitiveness over project managers from other countries.
